January 14, 2010 - A 12-2 second-half run helped propel Michigan Tech University's men's basketball team to a 68-60 victory over Hillsdale College in Houghton Thursday night.
The Chargers, now 2-11 overall and 2-7 in the GLIAC, will stay in the Upper Peninsula to battle Northern Michigan University starting at 1 p.m. Saturday.
Hillsdale, who won in its last trip to Michigan Tech, played a strong first half and led 29-24 at intermission. But the Huskies held the Chargers to just nine made field goals in the second half, and made all 15 of their free throws in the game in the second half.
Hillsdale missed 15 of its 21 attempts from 3-point land, and was outrebounded by the Huskies 44-32 in the game. MTU grabbed 14 offensive rebounds.
Senior Luke Laser led Hillsdale with 20 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals in a very good all-around performance. Sophomore Tyler Gerber scored 19 points, 11 coming in the first half, while sophomore Brent Eaton added 10. Those three were the only double-digit scorers for Hillsdale in the game.
