January 21, 2010 - The Hillsdale College men's basketball team is turning that corner.
The Chargers won their third game in the past four outings, defeating Ashland University 73-62 Thursday night at Jesse Philips Arena. Hillsdale is now 4-11 overall and 4-7 in the GLIAC. Hillsdale remains at home Saturday, hosting Tiffin University.
The Chargers never trailed in the game, relying on a balanced and unpredictable offense, along with an active defense.

Hillsdale played with confidence throughout the game, but particularly on offense in the first half.
Sophomore guard Ryan Robinet scored all eight of his points in the first half, including two perfect 3-point shots that were key in helping the Chargers hold off the Eagles.
Also playing the best game of his career was freshman center Nick Washburn, who was 7-for-11 from the field on his way to a career-high 15 points. He played just 14 minutes in the game, but used his size effectively in the low post.
Sophomore guard Tyler Gerber tied a school record for free throw percentage in a game, going 10-for-10 from the line. As a team, Hillsdale was 20-for-21 (95.2 percent), just shy of the school record for free throw percentage in a game, which is 96.7 percent, set back in 2004.
Gerber had 14 points and five assists, while Luke Laser and Brent Eaton each scored 12 points for Hillsdale. The Chargers held the Eagles to 3-for-16 shooting from 3-point land, and Hillsdale enjoyed a 27-24 edge on the boards.
