January 23, 2010 - Three significant records fell during Hillsdale College's 101-62 women's basketball win over Tiffin University Saturday afternoon. But the most poignant moment took place on an otherwise routine 3-point basket from the left side in the first half.
Guard Kara McCormick (pictured), who missed all of last season after

being diagnosed with lymphoma, returned to action Saturday, her first game action since March 2008.
McCormick sank her first shot, a 3-pointer, with 9:43 left in thef irst half that gave the Chargers a 36-12 lead. She finished the game with six points and two assists in nine minutes, providing the emotional highlight to a game that was chock-full of basketball highlights for Hillsdale.
Hillsdale set new team records for 3-pointers made (15) and assists (31) in a game, with the entire roster playing with purpose and aggression throughout the contest.
Sophomore guard Chelsea Harrison, already the GLIAC's leader in 3-pointers made, set a single-game school record with eight 3-point field goals. She was 8-for-10 from beyond the arc, and led all players with 24 points. Many players had hit seven in a game in Charger history, but Harrison's swish with 14:36 left in the second half set the new record.
The Chargers entered the contest on a three-game losing streak, all three coming in frustrating fashion to talented teams. But it appeared as if Hillsdale took all of those frustrations out on the Dragons, building a 22-2 lead less than five minutes into the game.
Junior Laura Barczak and freshman Emily Anderson each went 5-for-6 from the field and each scored 12 points for the Chargers.
Freshman guard Dana Cook hit back-to-back 3-pointers in the second half to tie, and eventually break, the team 3-pointers made record for the game. She played superior on-the-ball defense and was impressive in 11 minutes of playing time.
Fourteen different players scored points in the game for Hillsdale, and just one player (Brooke Knight) played more than 20 minutes. Knight had nine of the team's record 31 assists.
Hillsdale stays home next week, hosting Saginaw Valley State University at 6 p.m. Thursday.
