January 28, 2010 - The Hillsdale College women's basketball team was triumphant for the second game in a row, and also for the second game in a row, sophomore guard Chelsea Harrison was cooking from 3-point land.
Harrison, who set the single-game school record last Saturday with eight 3-pointers, nailed five to help lead the Chargers to a

75-57 win at home Thursday night over Saginaw Valley State University. Hillsdale is now 8-9 overall and 8-5 in the GLIAC, and will host Lake Superior State Saturday afternoon.
Harrison's 21 points led a balanced offensive attack for Hillsdale. Five players scored six or more points in the game, and the Charger defense did a terrific job of harassing the Cardinals' ballhandlers. Hillsdale took 23 more shots than SVSU in the game, thanks primarily to 29 turnovers committed by the Cardinals. Hillsdale players accounted for 17 of those through steals.
SVSU hasn't beaten Hillsdale since Dec. 3, 2001, but for a while, it looked like the Cardinals were going to put an end to that streak. The team opened the game playing good perimeter defense and executed its offense effectively.
A 3-pointer by SVSU's Jenna Saarela gave the Cardinals a 29-22 lead with 6:22 left in the first half. But the Charger defense increased its intensity from there, not allowing the Cardinals a single point for more than four minutes. During that time, Hillsdale went on a 12-0 run, capped by a fastbreak layup by senior Janay Miller.
One of Harrison's 3-pointers put Hillsdale up 55-44 with 10:37 left in the second half. The Cardinals still had one more run in them, scoring nine of the next 11 points to slice the lead to four. But a layup by Harrison ended the run, and a couple minutes later, sophomore forward Elizabeth Brannick drained a 3-pointer from the corner to help put Hillsdale comfortably ahead once again.
Miller had 15 points, five rebounds and four assists, and senior Brooke Knight added 14 points, four rebounds and seven assists to Hillsdale's win. The forward trio of Brannick, Amanda Geelhoed and Laura Barczak combined for 17 points and nine rebounds, balancing out Hillsdale's scoring nicely.
