
Hillsdale Individual Events Team Wins 2nd at State Novice Tournament
2/10/2010--The Hillsdale College Forensics team added another round of success to their 2009-2010 season this past weekend at the Michigan Intercollegiate Speech League Novice State Championship Tournament hosted jointly by Saginaw State University and Northwood University at Northwood’s campus in Midland. At the tournament, open only to students in their first year of competition, Hillsdale College finished second overall in Team Sweepstakes, beating all comers save Eastern Michigan University, and had seven final round entries, including two first place finishes.
Hillsdale College had a 1-2 finish in Persuasive Speaking, with Sarah Rogers and Kevin Knight taking the top two spots. Rogers was also the top performer in Extemporaneous Speaking, taking first place. In Impromptu Speaking, Alex Meregaglia had a strong third place finish. The pair of Rogers and Meregaglia rounded out their performances with a third and fourth place finish in Informative Speaking, respectively, and taking the sixth place spot as a team in Dramatic Duo Interpretation.
At this tournament, Hillsdale competed against the University of Michigan, Eastern Michigan University, Central Michigan University, Oakland Community College, Spring Arbor University, Saginaw State Valley University, Wayne State University, Northwood University, and Mid Michigan Community College.
Hillsdale College has two remaining regular season tournaments over the next two weekends, at Eastern Michigan University and Bowling Green State University, before competing in the Michigan Intercollegiate Speech League State Championship Tournament and then heading to Ohio University in April for the National Forensics Association National Tournament. Professor Matthew Warner is the Assistant Director of Forensics and Dr. James M. Brandon is the Director of Forensics.
