Hillsdale Theatre Students to Present at National Conference
Three theatre majors have been selected to present and workshop their research at the 36th Annual Undergraduate Honors Conference in Communication, which is hosted by DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana, from April 8-10, 2010. Hillsdale has previously sent six theatre students to DePauw (from 2005-2009), and their acceptance to this conference indicates the high quality of undergraduate scholarly work present in the Department of Theatre and Speech. For the 2010 conference, Dr. James M. Brandon, Associate Professor of Theatre and Speech, nominated four papers from his Theatre History I class, and three of them were accepted. This 75% acceptance rate marks Hillsdale’s highest to date. The three students attending the conference, as well as their research paper titles, are: senior Kaelynn Van Buren (Justifying the Church's Condemnation of Medieval Theater), and juniors Rachael Erichsen (The Mask as Mediator: A Study of the Relationship of 5th Century Greek Identity with Theatrical Mask) and Miriam Poole (The Staging of Hrotsvit's Plays). This marks Erichsen’s second trip to DePauw, as she was also selected to present in 2009. For more information on the conference, go to: www.depauw.edu/honors/uhc/
