Charger women step up at crunch time again in 84-73 win at Tiffin
February 25, 2010 - For the second game in a row, the Hillsdale College women's basketball team saved its best play for when it counted the most.

The Chargers finished Thursday's game on an 18-5 run on their way to an 84-73 win on the road vs. Tiffin University. Hillsdale, winners of five straight, wrap up regular season play Saturday at Ashland.

Thursday's game was evenly played through the first 33 news story imageminutes, with the Dragons holding a slim lead much of the way. Tiffin shot a high percentage in the first half, but in the second half, it was Hillsdale who was on target.

The Chargers (14-11, 14-7 GLIAC) finished the game shooting 54 percent from the field, their best mark of the season. That percentage was helped a great deal by the team's near-perfect play down the stretch.

Tiffin held a 68-66 lead with 7:02 left in the game. Hillsdale then made six straight field goals, by four different players, to grab a hold of the contest. The Chargers finished the game draining six of their last seven shots from the floor, and made all five of their free throws in the game's final seven minutes, while shutting down Tiffin's high-scoring backcourt.

Charger junior forward Laura Barczak (pictured) enjoyed the best scoring game of her career, leading the team with 21 points on 9-for-14 shooting. She also had three rebounds and a career-high three blocks.

Sophomore Chelsea Harrison added 20 points, along with three rebounds, four assists and two steals. Her two 3-point field goals made give her 66 for the season in conference games, a new GLIAC record.

Freshman Emily Anderson also played big in the game's final minutes, getting 13 points while making six of her eight shots from the floor.

In the team's game last Saturday at home vs. Michigan Tech, the Chargers went on a 24-4 run in the game's final six minutes to edge the No. 3-ranked Huskies 68-65.
