Eagles top Chargers in regular season finale; Hillsdale to face Findlay in GLIAC Tournament
February 27, 2010 - The regular season concluded on a sour note for the Hillsdale College women's basketball team Saturday afternoon.
Ashland University went on a 31-18 run over the game's final 10 minutes to take an 87-74 decision from the Chargers in Ashland. Hillsdale finishes the regular season with a 14-12 overall record, and 14-8 in the GLIAC. The Chargers will face the University of Findlay Tuesday night in Findlay, in the first round of the 2010 GLIAC Women's Basketball Tournament at 6 p.m.
The Eagles had one of their best offensive games of the season, shooting 52 percent from the field. Ashland's defense also played big, blocking nine shots in the game while forcing 13 turnovers by Hillsdale in the first half of the contest. Five different Eagles scored in double figures.
Charger sophomore Chelsea Harrison (pictured) led the team with 19

points. Her three 3-point field goals give her 70 in GLIAC games for the season, a new conference record. Only GLIAC games are counted for single-season conference records, meaning she will be the new record-holder for at least one full season.
Junior forward Laura Barczak, coming off a career-high 21-point performance at Tiffin Thursday, had 12 points and six rebounds, along with four assists. Her 33 points in the past two games are a career-best for her in a two-game span.
Senior guard Brooke Knight added 10 points, three rebounds and six assists for the Chargers.
Hillsdale won the GLIAC Tournament in 2009, defeating Lake Superior State, Grand Valley State and host Michigan Tech. It was the second conference tournament title in school history and the first in the long and successful coaching career of head coach Claudette Charney.
Tuesday's first round game at Findlay marks the first time since 2005 the Chargers will not host a first-round tournament game. Tip-off for the contest is likely to be at either 5:30 or 6 p.m., since Findlay's men's basketball team is also hosting a first-round tournament contest.
Hillsdale finished the regular season second in the GLIAC South Division to Findlay. The Chargers have finished either first or second in the South Division five straight years. The Chargers were swept in the 2008-09 season series by the Oilers, those games taking place Dec. 17 and Jan. 2.
