2010 Daktronics All-Midwest Region Softball Release
May 19, 2010 - The top two hitters in the GLIAC did not earn all-conference honors earlier this month. But Wednesday afternoon, Hillsdale College's lethal combination of softball sophomores

Jessica Guertin and Jennifer Berlet were recognized as two of the best in the Midwest Region.
Guertin, a record-breaking third baseman, was named First-Team All-Region by Daktronics, in voting conducted by sports information directors in the region. Berlet, a first baseman, was named Second-Team All-Region.
Guertin and Berlet became the first Charger softball players to earn all-region accolades in the past 10 years. The Midwest Region is made up of teams in the GLIAC and GLVC, along with a handful of independent Division II schools.
Guertin had a season for the ages for Hillsdale, shattering single-season school records for home runs (15), runs batted in (49) and slugging percentage (.880). She led the GLIAC in home runs, slugging percentage, on-base percentage (.519) and batting average (.436).
Her 15 home runs are the third-most in a single season in GLIAC history, and she also set the school's all-time record for home runs in a career, now having 21 to her credit.
Guertin finished the season on an absolute tear, driving in 26 runs over the team's last 11 games. She had a three home run game against Tiffin on May 1 and was named the GLIAC Player of the Week for the final week of the regular season.
Berlet also turned in an outstanding campaign, finishing second in the GLIAC with a .421 batting average. She finished the season on a 12-game hitting streak, batting a scorching .578 in those games. She led the team in total hits with 59, and struck out just six times in 140 at bats this season.
Berlet was also a superior defensive player, committing only four errors in 44 starts at first base.
Both Guertin and Berlet were named honorable mention All-GLIAC. Guertin is now one of eight finalists for Daktronics All-American honors, in voting that will take place next week.
