Chuck Wysong latest Hillsdale College athlete to earn the GLIAC Commissioner's Award
Men's track runner wins award for spring season
June 24, 2010 - Hillsdale College track and cross country standout Chuck Wysong tackles some of the toughest running events college athletics has to offer. Now, he's been rewarded for his excellence in the classroom in addition to his ability to tackle tough races.

Wysong, a junior, was named one of 12 winners of the GLIAC Commissioner's Award for the Spring 2010 season. The commissioner's award recognizes student-athletes who carry an overall grade point average of 3.5 or better, and are all-conference caliber athletes in their respective sports. The news story image conference honors a total of 12 athletes across all sports and all schools each season.

Wysong carries an overall grade point average of 3.8, and majors in economics at Hillsdale College. He participates on the school's cross country team in the fall, ande competes in the steeplechase event during outdoor track season.

In May, Wysong finished fourth at the GLIAC championships in the steeplechase event. He set the new school record in that event at the 2010 Hillsdale College Gina Relays, finishing the race in 9:16.42.

During the 2009-10 indoor track season, Wysong took 10th at the GLIAC meet in the mile run, with a time of 4:18.

While away from the track and cross country course, Wysong stays busy with a wide variety of extra-curricular activities that not only enrich campus life, but his community.

He's been a member of Hillsdale College's chapter of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee for two years, and in 2009-10, was a leader for the organization's philanthropy activities. He's also been actively involved with the Athletes in Action group at Hillsdale.

During the summertime, Chuck and his brother Jeff have spent time at area prisons as part of the prison ministry program. They perform church services for more than 100 inmates each Sunday.
