Eric Theisen named assistant baseball coach
Former Illinois State pitcher joins Charger staff
July 1, 2010 - After playing and coaching at a wide variety of levels, Eric Theisen has arrived at Hillsdale College as the new assistant baseball coach. He assumed his duties on July 1, 2010. Theisen replaces Andy Lovell, who left the program shortly after the conclusion of the 2010 season.
Theisen is a 2008 graduate of Illinois State University, where he pitched for four years for the Redbirds. He earned his degree in University Studies, while racking up a number of honors for ISU in his career. He was named Second Team All-Conference in the Missouri Valley Conference, served as team captain, and set the school’s career record for most appearances.
After graduating, Theisen continued his playing career, participating in spring training for the Traverse City Beach Bums, an independent team in northern Michigan, and served as a player/coach for the Brussels Kangaroos in Belgium.
His experience in Brussels was a transitional one, as he moved from being a player to a coach. He was the head coach of his team in Belgium, and continued his coaching career with the Battle Creek Bombers, a collegiate-level team participating in the Northwoods League, in the summer of 2010, in addition to serving as the pitching coach at nearby Siena Heights University from 2008-10. He was also an assistant coach for the American Legion Post 180 summer ballclub, operating out of Hudson, Michigan.
Theisen has also worked at a number of camps and clinics in Michigan and Illinois. He played his prep baseball at Adrian High School, where he was a standout pitcher for the Maples.
In addition to his on-field work, Theisen has worked closely with the “Minds of the Future,” an outreach program based in Adrian.
