October 2, 2010 - The freight train that has become the Hillsdale College volleyball team blew through Detroit this afternoon, to the tune of another 3-0 win. Next stop: Findlay, Ohio.

The Chargers ran their current winning streak to 11 matches in a 3-0 sweep over Wayne State University Saturday afternoon, in Detroit's Matthaie Center. Hillsdale is now 12-1 overall and 9-0 in the GLIAC, and will wrap up this weekend's road trip in Findlay news story image against the Oilers at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Hillsdale wiped out the Warriors to the tune of 25-16, 25-22, 25-12. Eight of Hillsdale's 11 straight wins have come by 3-0 sweeps, including two over Wayne State.

The Chargers hit an incredible .381 as a team for the match, a very rare number for an entire team to reach. But when your team has a middle hitter as good as junior Clara Leutheuser, and an outside hitter like Ashlee Crowder, such numbers are more attainable.

Leutheuser (pictured) nearly pitched a "perfect game." finishing with 10 kills and no errors on 12 attempts, good for an .833 attack percentage. Crowder was just as effective, leading the team with 13 kills and a .407 hitting percentage. Leutheuser, the GLIAC's top blocker, also had one solo block and three block assists. As a team, Hillsdale outblocked Wayne State 9-2.

The Chargers hit .462 in the third sert as a team, with 13 kills and one error, on 26 attempts.

Junior Apryl Schmucker expertly directed the offense, handing out 31 assists to go along with three service aces. Senior Sydney Dow led the team with 11 digs, and senior Amanda Bigney added seven kills, and hit .417.
