October 18, 2010 - For the third time in the past four weeks, a member of the Hillsdale College volleyball team was named the GLIAC South Division Player of the Week. The latest member of this exclusive club is junior Clara Leutheuser.
Leutheuser earned her second career GLIAC South Division Player of the Week honor Monday afternoon. The award was announced by the conference office.
Leutheuser led the Charger volleyball team to a 3-0 record over the weekend at the Mizuno GLIAC/GLVC Crossover Tournament, held in Aurora, Illinois. She was the only player from a South Division team to be named to the All-Tournament Team, and she had the numbers to back it up.
Hillsdale defeated Southern Indiana, Lewis and Northern Kentucky over the weekend. Against Lewis Saturday night, Leutheuser tied a career-high with 20 kills, helpig the Chargers to a come-from-behind win over the 11th-ranked team in the nation. She followed that up with a 16-kill performance Saturday against NKU. She also hit .563 in that match, helping the Chargers to a 3-2 win over the Norse.
Leutheuser is turning in another spectacular season for the 18-1 Chargers, ranking third in the GLIAC in hitting percentage (.345) and third in blocks per set (1.18). She was an honorable mention All-American following the 2009 season, and this season, has helped anchor a team that is on a 17-game winning streak, and has ranked in the top three nationally in team blocks per set all season.
Four different Hillsdale players have been named GLIAC South Division Player of the Week during the 2010 campaign. Lauren Grover, Ashlee Crowder and Apryl Schmucker have also picked up the award this season.
Leutheuser is a native of Hillsdale, and attended Hillsdale Academy.
