Charger volleyball team ranked No. 1 in first set of NCAA Midwest Regional rankings

NCAA Division II volleyball regional rankings for Oct. 20, 2010

October 21, 2010 - The Hillsdale College volleyball team is ranked number one in the first set of NCAA Division II Midwest Regional rankings, which were set Wednesday night but not released until Thursday.

The Chargers own a 19-1 overall record and have won 18 straight. This is the first time the team has been ranked number one in the region since 2006, when Hillsdale hosted the regional tournament.

Regional rankings are based on a formula that takes into account a team's overall record, in-region record, bordering-states record, and strength of schedule, among other factors. Hillsdale is listed with an 18-1 in-region record, because of the "border states" clause, which includes the Chargers' loss to Minnesota State-Mankato back on Sept. 4.

Hillsdale has the second-best in-region record of any team in the country.

These rankings typically change from one extent to another until the final regional rankings are released on Sunday, Nov. 14. At that time, final rankings are released, and the team seeded number one would host that region's tournament, which would start either Thursday, Nov. 18 or Friday, Nov. 19.

Hillsdale next plays at home on Saturday, against Ohio Dominican starting at 2 p.m.
