Hillsdale College Hosts "Aiming for Liberty" Shooting Event
Hillsdale College hosted its first annual ‘‘Aiming For Liberty’’ Shoot at the Hillsdale College Shooting Sports Center on October 9, 2010.

The event was open to the public and was sponsored by AcuSport Corporation, Birchwood Casey, GunBroker.com, Smith&Wesson and Winchester Ammunition. The day began with a lecture on the United States Constitution by Associate Professor of History Dr. David Raney. Mr. Jim Arnold, owner of Custom Shooting Sports, LLC, and Ms. Carol Franklin, national accounts manager for Smith&Wesson, also gave presentations on safety and the history of shooting sports.

Nearly 250 people, from new shooters to long-time shooting sports enthusiasts, attended the event. The Hillsdale College Shooting Sports Center boasts four American trap ranges, one five-stand sporting clays field and a temporary small-bore range. When complete, it will have a 50-meter handgun range and a 100-meter rifle range. Hillsdale College has a shooting sports club, a competitive shotgun team, and offers classes for beginning and advanced shotgun shooting through its Physical Education Department. Hillsdale also offers privately funded scholarships for shooters, Eagle Scouts and veterans.
