Hillsdale College volleyball team ruthless in sweep of Lake Erie College

October 29, 2010 - The Hillsdale College volleyball team was not exactly in a charitable mood Friday night.

Making its first-ever trip to Painesville, Ohio, playing Lake Erie College, the No. 10-ranked Chargers destroyed the Storm in a 3-0 sweep at Jack Britt Stadium. Hillsdale put together its most dominant performance of the season by points, winning 25-10,m 25-9, 25-18.

Hillsdale has now won 21 straight matches and is 22-1 on the season. The Chargers can complete a season sweep of the entire GLIAC South Division with a win over Ashland in their match on the road at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Hillsdale set a new season-high in team hitting percentage in the match, running its offense at a .473 clip. The team committed just six hitting errors, four of those in the third set when it news story imagedeployed a young lineup. Six different players had four or more kills.

Sophomore middle hitter Lauren Grover was the only player in the match to hit double digits in kills, getting 10, along with a .600 attack percentage. Junior Amanda Geelhoed (pictured) had a season-high three solo blocks to go along with six kills and a .500 attack percentage.

Junior setter Apryl Schmucker played just two sets, but generated 18 assists and two service aces. Sophomore Kaleigh Shuster had a perfect hitting match, getting four kills in four attempts. Freshman setter Sydney Lenhart stepped into the match in the third set, and had an impressive 12 assists.

Junior Morgan Podkul led the team in digs with 10, while Caitlin Kopmeyer and Sydney Dow each collected six. Hillsdale held Lake Erie to a team hitting percentage of .014 in the match.
