November 12, 2010 - The 2010-11 Hillsdale College women's basketball team got its season off to a good start Friday afternoon with a 77-66 win over Abilene Christian at the St. Edward's University Invitational in Austin, Texas.
The Chargers are 1-0 on the season and will wrap up play this weekend Saturday afternoon against Midwestern State.
Hillsdale got off to a strong start in the game, building an 18-point halftime lead, thanks in large part to the hot shooting hand of junior guard Chelsea Harrison.
Harrison (pictured) had a point-a-minute first half for Hillsdale, scoring 19 of her game-high 21 points in the first half. She played 19 out of a possible 20 minutes, and was 5-for-8 from the floor and made all six of her free throws in the half.
The Chargers' lead grew to as big as 25 early in the second half before Abilene Christian made a late run against the Chargers' substitute players.
Sophomore Emily Anderson scored 11 points to go along with four rebounds and four assists for Hillsdale. Junior forward Katie Bildner led the team with seven rebounds, and junior Elizabeth Brannick came off the bench to grab seven boards. Senior Laura Barczak had 10 points in a starting role.
Hillsdale's starting five went a combined 20-for-23 from the free throw line in the game.
