November 12, 2010 - Playing the earliest possible regular season opener, the Hillsdale College men's basketball team encountered little resistance in picking up its first win of the season.

Shooting 55 percent from the field, and receiving tremendous news story image balance on offense, the Chargers blew out Ohio State-Newark 99-51 before a big crowd of more than 500 fans at Jesse Philips Arena. Hillsdale is now 1-0 on the season, and will play a key regional game Monday night at Illinois-Springfield.

Fifteen different players scored at least one point for Hillsdale in the victory. After building a 20-point lead at halftime, the team built an even bigger advantage in the second half, outscoring the Titans 54-26 in the game's final 20 minutes.

Sophomore center Nick Washburn led a balanced Chargers' attack with 15 points, on 6-for-8 shooting from the floor. He had a big size advantage on anyone who guarded him, and he did a good job of getting deep post position, giving himself easy shot attempts from the floor.

Junior Brad Guinane scored 14 points for Hillsdale, while starting guards Tyler Gerber (10 points) and Nick Meinert (12 points) each hit double figures in scoring.

Several players made their collegiate debuts in this game for the Chargers. Redshirt-freshman Tony Nelson (pictured) played aggressively in his 11 minutes on the floor, getting five points and six rebounds. Freshman guard Derek Schell had six points, making two 3-point field goals. Freshman Brandon Pritzl assisted on both of those shots, and redshirt-freshman Tim Dezelski had three rebounds in 11 minutes on the court.
