November 27, 2010 - Sophomore guard Emily Anderson's 16 points led another balanced effort for the Hillsdale College women's basketball team Saturday, as the Chargers improved to 4-0 on the season.
Taking part in the Holiday Inn Classic in Ashland, Ohio, Hillsdale defeated Wheeling-Jesuit 62-50 Saturday afternoon in the first of the two-day holiday tournament. Hillsdale will take on Urbana University Sunday afternoon starting at 1 p.m.
Hillsdale came back from a 34-29 halftime deficit to hold Wheeling-Jesuit to just 16 second-half points to rally for the win.
Half of Hillsdale's 22 field goals in the game came from behind the 3-point line. Anderson and Lea Jones each made four 3-pointers, while Marissa DeMott (one) and Chelsea Harrison (two) each drained shots from downtown.
The Chargers opened the second half on a 12-1 run, to immediately erase the halftime deficit and build a six-point lead. That sequence turned out to set the tone for the rest of the game, when Hillsdale never trailed again. Anderson had eight of the team's 12 points in that run.
Jones and Harrison had 12 points each for Hillsdale. Senior forward Laura Barczak had 10 points, five rebounds and five assists for the Chargers.
