November 28, 2010 – For the fourth time in the past five years, the Hillsdale College women’s basketball team has started a season 5-0. And none of this season’s five wins were more impressive for the Chargers than their effort Sunday afternoon.

Forcing 27 turnovers and holding Urbana University to 33 percent shooting from the field, Hillsdale whipped the Blue Knights 77-52 Sunday afternoon at Ashland University’s Kates Gymnasium in the second day of the Holiday Inn Classic in Ashland. The 5-0 Chargers will open conference play at home Thursday night, taking on Ashland University starting at 8 p.m.

After trailing 4-0 early in the game, Hillsdale immediately established control of the contest, going on a 14-1 run to open up a nine-point lead less than nine minutes into the game. Urbana eventually sliced the lead back down to five, 25-20 with 4:11 left in the half, but the Chargers closed out the first half scoring 12 consecutive points to open up a 17-point lead at intermission. Four different players scored during the half-ending run, illustrating the offensive balance the team has found this season.

Hillsdale led by as many as 29 points in the second half, and 11 different players scored points in the game. Ten different players recorded steals, and seven different players scored between six and 15 points.

Junior forward Katie Bildner led the scoring parade for the Chargers with 15 points, connecting on five of her nine shots from the floor. Bildner also led the team with nine rebounds, and had three steals in 28 minutes. Junior Chelsea Harrison scored 13, and had four assists, while junior Elizabeth Brannick had a very productive 18 minutes off the bench, producing nine points, five rebounds, one block, one steal and two assists.

Senior Laura Barczak added nine points and seven rebounds in 26 minutes, while sophomore Lea Jones had eight points, two assists and four steals.
