December 2, 2010 - It was a home debut many on the Hillsdale College women's basketball team would rather forget.

Playing the late game in the home GLIAC doubleheader for the first time, and debuting new home uniforms, the Chargers got off to a terrific start, but ended up on the losing end of a 75-56 contest to Ashland University Thursday night at Jesse Philips Arena. The loss halted Hillsdale's five-game winning streak that opened the season. The team will host Lake Erie at 3 p.m. Saturday.

Hillsdale jumped out to a 13-2 lead in the game's first seven minutes, and held the Eagles without a field goal for the game's first eight minutes. But once the Eagles started making shots, they rarely seemed to miss.

Despite missing its first 11 shots from the field, Ashland shot 44 percent for the game, including 59 percent in the second half, when it outscored Hillsdale 43-28. Ashland's defense was also outstanding in the game, keeping Hillsdale from getting many passes into, or shot attempts from, the painted area near the basket.

Hillsdale shot 37 percent from the field, and was 6-for-16 from 3-point land in the contest.

The Eagles ended the first half on an 8-0 run to turn the game news story image from a 28-24 Chargers lead, into a 32-28 edge for the Eagles at halftime. Ashland extended that run with another 8-0 run to open the second half, taking a lead that went over double digits. Hillsdale got within 10 just once more in the game.

Two freshmen were bright spots for the Chargers. Forward Angela Bisaro made her first four shots from the field, and finished the game with a team-high 10 points, on 5-for-7 shooting from the floor. She also had three rebounds and two blocked shots, and showed good quickness and quality moves in the post.

Freshman guard Marissa DeMott (pictured), came into the ballgame late in the second half, and scored seven points in seven minutes of action, including a 3-pointer.

Junior Chelsea Harrison shared team scoring honors with Bisaro, and had 10 points and eight assists for Hillsdale. Laura Barczak and Emily Anderson each scored eight in the game. Lea Jones led the team with six rebounds, while Elizabeth Brannick and Barczak each corralled five boards.
