December 4, 2010 - Sometimes, it helps to have a short memory. In the case of the Hillsdale College women's basketball team, a short memory, and good execution, helped it to its first conference win of the young season.
After losing at home by 19 points less than 48 hours earlier, the Chargers put together a fine performance in defeating Lake Erie College 85-69 Saturday afternoon at Jesse Philips Arena.

Hillsdale is now 6-1 on the season and 1-1 in the GLIAC, and will host Ferris State University at 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Coming off a tough home loss to the Eagles, the Chargers showed much more confidence and sharpness against the Storm, particularly on offense, where the team shot 58 percent from the field in the first half, and tied its season high for points in a game.
Hillsdale never trailed the Storm in this game, and ended the first half on a 15-4 run, helping to blow up a one-point lead into a 46-34 lead at halftime.
A key part of the half-ending run came thanks to the play of sophomore point guard Kelsey Raczak. Subbing into the game for starter Lea Jones, who was saddled with foul trouble, Raczak did an excellent job of moving the ball and keeping the team's offense running at a high pace during her minutes in the game. She scored just four points in the game - all on free throws - but she also had four rebounds, three assists and one steal in 13 key minutes on the floor.
The Chargers did cool off a bit from the field in the second half, but the team ended up shooting 37 percent from 3-point territory, and made 20 of its 23 free throw attempts, keeping the Storm a comfortable distance behind throughout the second half.
Freshman Marissa DeMott gave the team a nice offensive boost in the second half, making three 3-point field goals, finishing with nine points.
Junior Chelsea Harrison was able to burn the Storm's zone defense throughout the game with her hot shooting touch. She led all players with 22 points, and went 4-for-8 from beyond the 3-point stripe. Sophomore Emily Anderson also had an effective offensive game, finishing with 17 points, three rebounds, two assists and three steals.
Starting forwards Katie Bildner and Laura Barczak each had eight points, while Jones (pictured) had nine points and five assists in the game.
