December 4, 2010 - Competing for the final time on a cross country course in her athletic career, Hillsdale College senior Erin Brunko made it a race to remember. And she was able to share the experience with her team, who competed with the very best teams in the nation Saturday afternoon in Louisville,

Kentucky.
Brunko became the latest Division II All-American athlete at Hillsdale College, finishing 21st overall at the 2010 NCAA Division II Cross Country National Championship Meet, held at the Tom Sawyer Park in Louisville, near the campus of Bellarmine University.
Brunko completed the race in 21:50. The top 40 runners overall earn All-American status, and she was just seconds away from being in the top half of the All-Americans in all of Division II with a fantastic race.
The Chargers competed as a team at the meet, and took 14th overall, with 387 team points. The team was third among GLIAC schools at the meet, with Grand Valley State's women winning the national championship with 66 points.
Two Charger runners finished back-to-back behind Brunko, with Amanda Putt (102nd), edging out teammate Melissa TenKate (103rd). Both were recorded with race times of 23:31. Not far behind them was Emily Shelton, who was 114th with a time of 23:46.
Francesca Frasier took 117th at the meet with a time of 23:47, and Hillsdale's effort was rounded up by 2009 All-American Ashley Quick, who in the final cross country race of her career, ran a 24:28, and Jennifer Shaffer's time of 25:54, which was 179th.
Brunko, a team captain and GLIAC All-Academic honoree, has steadily improved throughout her career, culminating in one of the greatest honors in her sport. Along with Quick, and men's runner Tim Jagielski in 2008, Hillsdale College has produced an All-American cross country runner in each of the past three years.
