February 5, 2011 – The first game back home after two weeks away was not a pleasant return for the Hillsdale College women’s basketball team.
The Chargers fell to the .500 mark in conference play thanks to a 65-60 loss to Northwood University Saturday afternoon.

Hillsdale is 13-7 overall and 7-7 in the GLIAC, and will stay home next week, hosting South Division foes Ohio Dominican Thursday, and Tiffin Saturday.
The Chargers did a lot of good things defensively in this game, like holding the GLIAC’s leading scorer, Northwood’s Pam Wilson, to five points below her average for the season, and keeping the Timberwolves cold from behind the 3-point stripe (3-for-11). But Northwood countered with a 50-36 edge in rebounds, and the visitors were able to make key plays down the stretch that helped get them the win.
This tightly played contest featured 11 ties and eight lead changes, many of them coming in the game’s final eight minutes. After Northwood led for much of the first part of the second half, the Chargers wrested the lead away at the 7:25 mark, when Chelsea Harrison swished a pair of free throws to put Hillsdale in front, 47-45. Hillsdale led by as many as four points as late as the 1:31 mark of the game, after a made free throw by Laura Barczak made it a 60-58 game. But Northwood would end the contest on a 9-0 run over the game’s last 91 seconds to come away with the win.
Northwood center Savannah Stedman, who played big off the bench, converted a three-point play with 30 seconds left to put the Timberwolves in front for good, 62-60. A transfer player from Northwestern University, Stedman made a huge impact in the game, leading Northwood with 21 points and 10 rebounds in 22 minutes off the bench.
Hillsdale was led by 17 points from junior guard Chelsea Harrison, who played all 40 minutes of the game. Junior Katie Bildner was 5-for-9 from the floor, and had 12 points, eight rebounds and two assists. Sophomore guard Lea Jones scored nine and pulled down five rebounds, while Laura Barczak added eight points and five rebounds.
