Press release announcing the first four members of 2011-12 freshman class
April 29, 2011 – Hillsdale College women’s basketball coach Claudette Charney is pleased to announce the addition of two more freshmen to next year’s roster.
Betsy Bildner (Comstock Park, Mich.) and
Megan Fogt (Columbus, Ohio) bring the total number of incoming freshmen to six for the 2011-12 season. In November, the Chargers signed Brooke Borowski, Chelsea Farrell, Kadie Lowry and Abbey Lovat to national letters of intent.
Bildner is the younger sister of Charger senior-to-be Katie Bildner. A 5-foot-8 guard at Grand Rapids West Catholic, Betsy was a team captain and led her prep team to two straight conference championships. She earned honorable mention All-State honors, along with being named First Team All-Conference, First Team All-Area and earned a spot on the Christmas Showcase All-Tournament Team. She averaged more than 10 points per game throughout her career at guard.
She was a multi-talented athlete at West Catholic, also earning varsity letters in track, cross country and soccer. In the classroom, she earned a spot on the school’s honor roll, and was named her school’s Student-Athlete of the Week. She has served as class treasurer, was part of the Pro-Life Club and volunteered at the Knights of Columbus and worked as a Holy Trinity Tutor. She was also named to her school’s homecoming court.
Bildner played her AAU basketball for Lakeside Hoops from 2002-09, then the Supreme Court form 2009-11. Her Lakeside Hoops team won four state championships and qualified for nationals three times. She helped her Supreme Court team to first-place finishes at the Chicago Classic, as well as the National Toledo Crossover.
Fogt comes to Hillsdale by way of Anna, Ohio, and a high school of the same name. She is a six-foot tall forward who was named the Shelby County Player of the Year in 2010-11, after leading her team to a state championship. The title was the crowning achievement in a long career of success for Fogt, both as an individual and as part of her team.
Anna High School won back-to-back district and sectional championships in 2010 and 2011, before completing its state championship run in 2011. She was named her team’s most valuable player, led the team in rebounding and free throw percentage, and was named the Division III state tournament’s MVP.
As a junior, Fogt was named her team’s most improved player and was named Second-Team All-County. In her senior season, Fogt earned First-Team All-District and Second-Team All-Ohio honors. She played her AAU ball for the Shelby Shooters in 2008 and 2009, then joined the Lady Hoops squad in 2010 as a forward and center.
Fogt also competed in volleyball and track in high school, and was the volleyball team’s MVP in 2009-10 and 2010-11. She was part of the 1600 meter relay team in track.
Off the playing court, Fogt was very active in the Anna area. She is her high school class’ valedictorian, graduating with a perfect 4.0 grade point average. She was named Anna High School’s Sophomore of the Year in 2008-09, and has earned Academic All-Ohio honors. In her school, she served as the president of the National Honor Society, Student Council Vice President and was a chapter reporter for the Anna FFA. She has also volunteered at the Special Olympics and the Van Buren Township Clean-Up. Her parents are Allan and Kathy.
