July 27, 2011 – The brand-new Hillsdale College women’s tennis team will hold tryouts for spots on the 2011 roster on Monday, August 29 and Tuesday, August 30.

Each tryout session will begin at 2 p.m., and run for approximately two hours. Tryouts will be held at the Hillsdale College tennis courts, located at the South end of the George Roche Sports Complex, in front of the football stadium. Any players interested in trying out for the team must have a completed physical form before stepping onto the court. If a player does not have that form, she will not be allowed to try out. A link to the required physical form can be found at the top of this story.

Any interested players should email Coach Dzubay here. Please include your playing background in your email to Coach Dzubay. The deadline to register for tryouts is Friday, August 12.

Players are required to bring their own equipment, which includes tennis racquet, shoes and other sport-specific attire. Water should be available on the courts, but players should bring their own water bottle, just to be safe.

Head coach Nikki Dzubay said she could make cuts based on the first day of tryouts, depending on her observations of the players in attendance. She said she will be looking for skill and attitude before anything else.

“During tryouts, players will be hitting with other girls, and will have a chance for some one-on-one time with me,” Dzubay said. “Points will be played out, but match competition will not determine if you have made the team. I will take skill level and attitude on the court into most consideration when picking players for the team.”

The Chargers will open the 2011 season at the Lake Superior State University tournament, in Sault Ste. Marie, Sept. 2-3.
