September 8, 2011 – The highly anticipated 2011-12 Hillsdale College men’s basketball season just had a little extra spice added to the early part of the schedule.
The Chargers recently signed a contract to play Michigan State University in East Lansing’s Breslin Center on Friday, November 4 in an exhibition game. Game time will be 7 p.m.
Hillsdale College's allotment of 300 tickets have been sold out. Anyone wishing to purchase a ticket between now and game time will have to go through the MSU ticket office.
Chargers head coach John Tharp said he is thrilled at the opportunity to take on the most successful college program in the state of Michigan in this matchup.
“Michigan State is the gold standard when it comes to college basketball programs anywhere in the country,” Tharp said. “To get a chance to play against those players, coach against those coaches, in that kind of venue, is a chance of a lifetime for all of us. Our guys are very excited to play this game, and we think it’s an appropriate start to what we hope will be a very memorable season for us.”
Tharp is no stranger to coaching in Big Ten venues. While coaching at Division III Lawrence University, he took his team to Madison, Wisc. for an exhibition game against the University of Wisconsin Badgers.
The game against the Spartans is one of two exhibition games the Chargers will play in the upcoming season. Hillsdale will take on Valparaiso on Saturday, October 29. Hillsdale opens the regular season on Friday, November 11 with a home contest against the University of Michigan-Dearborn.
