Ashland 7, Hillsdale 2

September 9, 2011 - Playing under a fine mist from above, and a big group of students around the courts, the revived Hillsdale College women's tennis team made its home debut Friday afternoon.

The Chargers lost to Ashland University 7-2 in this GLIAC matchup. Hillsdale is now 1-4 overall and will play at home again Sunday, against Lake Erie College starting at 11 a.m.

The most competitive match of the afternoon took place at No. 2 singles, with Charger freshman Morgan Delp hanging tough with Ashland's Erika Sullivan. The match was highlighted by a number of long rallies and terrific shots by both players. Delp lost the first set, but came back to win the second set, 6-2. But Sullivan adjusted effectively and captured the match with a 6-0 win in the third and deciding set.

Delp got into the win column at No. 1 doubles, along with partner Brittany Parks, who were on the winning side of an 8-3 decision.

Parks improved her record to 4-1 on the season with a hard-fought 6-4, 6-2 win over the Eagles' Torrie Goudy. Parks' match was constantly interrupted by slick surfaces on the court thanks to the fine mist that was off and on throughout the afternoon. But Parks (pictured) showed impressive poise and skill in finishing out her first career conference win.
