Volleyball team improves to 2-0 in GLIAC with sweep of Lake Erie

September 10, 2011 - The Hillsdale College volleyball wasted little time in handing Lake Erie College a 3-0 defeat Saturday afternoon in Painesville, Ohio.

Hillsdale, now 5-1 overall and 2-0 in the GLIAC, will take on Ashland University at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Head coach Chris Gravel played his entire roster for the first time this season. Freshmen Kat Carpenter and Meagan McPhetridge each made their collegiate debuts for the Chargers.

Junior middle hitter Lauren Grover led Hillsdale with seven kills, while senior Ashlee Crowder had six kills in eight attempts, with no errors for a .750 hitting percentage.

Senior Apryl Schmucker had 19 assists, while freshman setter Alexis Waugh had eight assists in her most extended playing time of the season.

Hillsdale delivered 13 service aces in the match, while holding the Storm to a .112 hitting percentage.
