Apryl Schmucker earns second career GLIAC South Division Player of the Week Award
October 4, 2011 - Fifty-one weeks since her first GLIAC South Division Player of the Week honor, Hillsdale College senior Apryl Schmucker collected her second.
A senior setter, Schmucker earned the GLIAC Volleyball South Divison Player of the Week award for the second time in her career. The award was chosen and announced by the conference office late Tuesday afternoon.
Schmucker directed the 10th-ranked Chargers to wins at home over South Division foes Wayne State and Findlay over the weekend. She dished out 78 assists in the two matches, including a season-high 50 in Sunday's win over the Oilers. She also had a total of six block assists, seven digs and three kills in the two matches, and helped the team to a weekend hitting percentage of .277.
Schmucker, an All-GLIAC Tournament selection in 2010, ranks third in the conference in assists and fourth in service aces per set. She's helped the Chargers to a 12-2 overall record and a national ranking of 10th in the most recent AVCA Division II Top 25 poll.
She is the third different Hillsdale College volleyball player to win this award in the past three weeks, joining teammates Ashlee Crowder and Lauren Grover.
Schmucker is a native of Inman, Kansas.
