GLIAC/GLVC Volleyball Crossover Tournament Webpage
October 10, 2011 - The Hillsdale College volleyball team now knows who its opponents will be in this weekend's Mizuno GLIAC/GLVC Volleyball Crossover Tournament,
The Chargers will open play with a match versus Wisconsin-Parkside at 11:30 a.m. Friday. Hillsdale will then get its second look at the University of Indianapolis this season at 5:30 p.m. Friday. The third and final match of the weekend will be a rematch of the first round of last year's NCAA regional tournament, as Hillsdale takes on Southern Indiana University at 1 p.m. Saturday.
All matches will take place in Aurora, Illinois.
The tournament format matches up teams from the GLIAC and GLVC who are in relatively the same spot in their respective conference's standings. The Chargers come into the tournament as the GLIAC's overall number two seed. Ferris State gets the top seed by virtue of its win over Hillsdale back on Sept. 24.
Two of Hillsdale's opponents are familiar foes. The Chargers and Greyhounds have squared off a total of six times in the past six years, before the tournament. Indianapolis has ended Hillsdale's season in NCAA regionals in 2007, 2009 and 2010, though the Chargers did win a dramatic and bizarre contest with the Greyhounds on Sept. 2, in a match that didn't end until after 1 a.m. at Indianapolis' own tournament.
Southern Indiana provided Hillsdale with a tough test in the first round of NCAA regionals last year in the 1 vs. 8 matchup.
Hillsdale has enjoyed much success at the crossover tournament since its inception in 2008. The team is 7-2 in crossover matches, and went a perfect 3-0 in both 2008 and 2010.
