Saginaw Valley State 7 Hillsdale 2
October 13, 2011 - The first season of the new era of Hillsdale College women's tennis came to an end Thursday afternoon, with a 7-2 loss to Saginaw Valley State University. The Chargers finished with an overall record of 3-12 and 2-10 in the GLIAC.
Despite that record, the future holds plenty of promise for head coach Nikki Dzubay and her team. One example of that promise was in top form Thursday afternoon.
Freshman Morgan Delp rolled to wins at No. 2 singles, and teamed up with junior Brittany Parks for a decisive 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles. Delp improved throughout the season, and with three more years in front of her, the Chargers figure to look forward to many more victories from her in the future. She won five of her last singles matches to end the season.
Delp won her match 6-0, 6-1, while she and Parks steamrolled their way to an 8-2 win as a doubles combo.
Parks also made a big impression on the GLIAC in her first season. She went 10-5 at No. 1 doubles, and won 10 of her first 12 decisions to open the season. Parks and Delp make a solid foundation for the program going forward.
