Balanced attack leads Charger volleyball team to sweep of Tiffin
#8 Hillsdale heads to Ohio Dominican Sunday

October 22, 2011 - Thirteen different players contributed to the 3-0 sweep by the Hillsdale College volleyball team over Tiffin University Saturday afternoon in Ohio.

The Chargers, ranked eighth in the nation, are now 19-2 overall and 12-1 in the GLIAC. The team wraps up its two-game road trip Sunday afternoon with a match against Ohio Dominican. news story image

Hillsdale won the sets by scores of 25-21, 25-9 and 25-18. The team had a hitting percentage of .309 and had seven total team blocks compared to three for the Dragons.

Eight different players recorded kills in the match for the Chargers, as head coach Chris Gravel successfully experimented with several different lineups. The team played with sharpness and focus, regardless of the combination of players that were on the court.

Ashlee Crowder, Caitlin Kopmeyer and Lauren Grover led the Chargers with nine kills each. Crowder had a hitting percentage of .444 in the match and had just one attack error. Kopmeyer also had a season-high three block assists.

Sophomore Sydney Lenhart (pictured) had 10 assists in her two sets played, and freshman Kat Carpenter had a season-high three kills with no errors. Senior Apryl Schmucker had 24 assists, and Kopmeyer led the team with 12 digs. Four different players had eight digs apiece for Hillsdale. Junior Kaleigh Shuster added four kills (no errors) in the win.
