November 2, 2011 – Win or lose, the players and coaches on the Hillsdale College men’s basketball team figure to have a night they’ll never forget this Friday.

In their final exhibition tune-up before the start of the 2011-12 regular season, the Chargers will take on Michigan State University at 7 p.m. Friday. This game will not count in either team’s regular season won-loss record or statistics, and is an exhibition contest for both. news story image

Exhibition game or not, the chance to play one of the top Division I programs in the nation inside the Breslin Center, is something every college basketball player hopes for during their career.

The game will be webcast through the Big Ten Network’s website, at the link located at the top of this story. Hillsdale’s radio station, WCSR, has chosen to not broadcast the game.

The Spartans have already played a GLIAC team as part of its exhibition schedule, defeating Ferris State 85-58 on Sunday. Likewise, the Chargers have an exhibition game against a Division I opponent already under their belts, losing a 72-71 decision to Valparaiso University on Oct. 29. This is also MSU’s final exhibition game, as its next opponent after the Chargers will be the University of North Carolina, aboard an aircraft carrier.

The Chargers come into this season loaded with talent and experience. Four of the team’s five starters are entering their third seasons as part of the starting five. Seniors Tyler Gerber and Brad Guinane were named to the preseason GLIAC South Division First-Team as part of the conference’s preseason information, released Tuesday afternoon. Senior Brent Eaton was named preseason honorable mention All-American by The Sporting News and is the team’s leading returning scorer. Junior Nick Washburn is entering his third season as the team’s starting center, and scored 15 points against Valpo in the team’s first exhibition game.

Sophomore guard Brandon Pritzl was the team’s fifth starter last weekend and scored a team-high 19 points. Pritzl scored a total of 15 points in his freshman season. Other players to watch for the Chargers include sophomores Derek Schell, Darius Ware and Tim Dezelski, and freshman guard Cody Smith.
