November 4, 2011 - The first half of the long road trip for the Hillsdale College volleyball team ended on a successful note.
Deploying a wide variety of lineups, the Chargers, ranked 8th in the nation, swept Michigan Tech University 3-0 Friday evening in Houghton. Hillsdale, winners of 14 straight matches, is now 23-2 overall and 17-1 in the GLIAC.
Hillsdale outhit Michigan Tech .347-.183 in the match, and won the sets by scores of 25-17, 25-18 and 25-17.
Junior middle hitter Lauren Grover played a near-perfect match for the Chargers, with 10 kills on 12 attempts, and only one error. She hit .750 for the match.
Sophomore Bekah Draves had six kills with no errors in a very efficient effort for the Chargers. Senior Ashlee Crowder tacked on nine kills, and sophomore Caitlin Kopmeyer added six kills to the Hillsdale attack.
Crowder and Morgan Podkul led Hillsdale with 10 digs apiece. Apryl Schmucker had 24 assists and four service aces.
