Lewis 62, Hillsdale 52
November 26, 2011 - The Hillsdale College men's basketball team lost for the first time this season Saturday afternoon, 62-52 at Lewis University in an in-region matchup.
The Chargers are 4-1 on the season and open GLIAC play next week in Ohio.
Hillsdale was held to its season-low in points by the Flyers. The Chargers shot 37 percent from the floor, shot just four free throws in the entire game (making three) and went 9-for-24 from beyond the 3-point line. Lewis took an early lead and never let Hillsdale run off a long enough scoring run to make the game closer than four.
Hillsdale made back-to-back 3-pointers to cut a 10-point lead to 37-33 early in the second half. But the Flyer defense was able to keep the Chargers out of their preferred offensive rhythm throughout the rest of the game.
Lewis was whistled for a total of eight fouls in the contest, an extremely low total.
Senior Brent Eaton led Hillsdale with 12 points, and Tyler Gerber scored 10 to represent the only players on the Chargers scoring in double figures in the contest. Gerber dished out seven assists, while junior center Nick Washburn led Hillsdale with seven rebounds. Senior Brad Guinane had eight points, four rebounds and four assists for Hillsdale.
