Hillsdale 84, Lake Superior State 51
December 10, 2011 – Playing its most complete and well-balanced game of the season, the Hillsdale College women’s basketball team won for the second time in a row in very impressive fashion.
The Chargers served up an 84-51 rout of Lake Superior State University Saturday afternoon at Hillsdale’s Jesse Philips Arena.

Hillsdale is now 5-3 overall and 2-2 in the GLIAC, and is off until next Saturday, when it hosts Ashland.
No player for Hillsdale played more than 26 minutes, and 12 different players scored points. It was an ideal situation for a team with six freshmen, and coach Claudette Charney was not only able to sub in every player on the team for significant minutes, but those players did an excellent job during their time on the court.
The team’s freshmen combined for 35 points in the game, led by 10 from guard Kadie Lowery, who also drained two 3-point baskets. Center Megan Fogt and guard Betsy Bildner scored eight points each. Fogt grabbed five rebounds in 12 minutes, and showed impressive composure on the floor. Bildner was pressed into duty early in the game and directed the team effectively from her point guard position.
Freshman Abbey Lovat had a team-high six rebounds to go along with seven points and two assists in 18 minutes on the floor.
The Chargers trailed 7-1 early in the game, but took the lead for good after a 9-0 spurt put them ahead 10-7. Hillsdale was able to exploit its quickness advantage, and used its outside shooting to nullify Lake Superior State’s zone defense. Hillsdale’s ball movement and player movement away from the ball were both big pluses in this victory.
The younger players on Hillsdale’s side helped limit the Lakers to 27 percent shooting in the second half. The Chargers held a 21-9 advantage in turnovers, and the team had nine steals compared to two for LSSU.
Senior guard Chelsea Harrison led Hillsdale with 12 points. Senior Elizabeth Brannick gave the team some excellent minutes off the bench with five points and four rebounds. Eight different players had seven or more points for the Chargers, and six players had four or more rebounds.
