Ashland 85, Hillsdale 78
December 17, 2011 – The Hillsdale College women’s basketball team nearly pulled off a miraculous comeback Saturday afternoon.
Trailing by as many as 22 points in the second half to 25th-ranked Ashland University, the Chargers tied the game on two

different occasions, but were unable to come away with a win, losing an 85-78 decision to the Eagles at Jesse Philips Arena.
Hillsdale, now 5-4 overall and 2-3 in the GLIAC, is off until it participates in the two-day Northern Kentucky tournament Dec. 29-30.
The Chargers trailed 42-25 at halftime, and that deficit grew to 56-34 after a quick opening burst by Ashland to start the second half. Hillsdale missed its first eight attempts from 3-point land, and was having a tough time penetrating the interior of Ashland’s quick and athletic defense.
That’s when the comeback started.
It started with a 3-pointer from the left corner by freshman Abbey Lovat. All of a sudden, the Chargers caught fire from beyond the arc, swishing seven of their next 10 shots from that spot on the floor.
Junior guard Lea Jones, who struggled to an 0-for-6 first half, made four straight 3-point shots, and led the home team’s comeback. A 3-pointer by Chelsea Harrison tied the game up at 63-63, completing a 29-6 run by the Chargers in the first 12 minutes of the second half.
The game was tightly played the rest of the way, with Hillsdale again tying the game up at 71-71 with 3:40 to play. But the Eagles were led by Division I transfer forward Kari Daugherty, who made five of her six free throw attempts in the game’s final three minutes to help seal up the win for the Eagles.
Sophomore forward Angela Bisaro scored the team’s first eight straight points and finished with a career-high 22 on 8-for-15 shooting from the field. She was the only player able to consistently find shooting room on the interior of the Ashland defense, particularly early in the game.
Harrison played all 40 minutes and finished with 18 points, four rebounds and five assists. Jones tossed in 14 points, with six rebounds and four assists before fouling out.
