Hillsdale 79, Central Oklahoma 62
December 30, 2011 - Nick Washburn started it, Brent Eaton finished it.
Playing for the first time in 13 days, the Hillsdale College men's basketball team showed few signs of rust in earning a 79-62 win over Central Oklahoma in the first day of the Quincy (Ill.) Holiday Tournament. The 10-1 Chargers will now face the winner of the Quincy/Johnson C. Smith game at 5:15 p.m. EST Saturday.
Hillsdale's offense was clicking throughout the game, as the Chargers raced out to a 24-11 lead in the first part of the first half, and were never seriously threatened by the Bronchos thereafter.
Junior center Nick Washburn controlled the paint early in the game and played a key part in the team's good started. Fiftenn of his 19 points came in the first half, and at one time, he tied UCO in points, 13-13, in the first half.
After the Bronchos cut a 19-point lead to 10, Eaton finished off the win, exploding for 15 points in the game's final nine minutes, to finish with a game-high 23. Eaton was 4-for-6 from 3-point land, and led an accurate shooting performance from downtown for Hillsdale in this game.
As a team, the Chargers shot 69 percent (11/16) from 3-point territory.
Senior Brad Guinane had his usual solid game for the Chargers with 11 points and nine rebounds. Senior point guard Tyler Gerber dished out four assists in the contest.
