Northern Kentucky 51, Hillsdale 41
December 30, 2011 -In the lowest scoring game of this season so far, the Hillsdale College women's basketball team found itself on the losing end of a 51-41 game at Northern Kentucky University Friday evening in Highland Heights.
The Chargers, now 5-6 overall on the season, return to action Thursday, Jan. 5 at home versus Wayne State.
As the final score indicates, this was a low-scoring contest in which both teams' defenses dominated long stretches of the game. A total of 47 points were scored in the first half, and a 3-point play by Chelsea Harrison gave the Chargers a brief 26-24 lead early in the second half.
But NKU held the Chargers scoreless over the next five minutes of the game, and gradually built its lead throughout the course of the second half. Hillsdale hung close and had a chance to cut it to a one-possession game later on, but could not string enough offense together to pull ahead.
Hillsdale shot 25 percent from the floor in the game, and was 6-for-28 from 3-point territory. The best stat in the game for the Chargers came on the defensive end, where they forced 26 turnovers by the Norse, 18 in the first half.
Junior guard Lea Jones led the way with a career-high seven steals for Hillsdale.
Sophomore guard Marissa DeMott led Hillsdale in scoring with 11 points, all coming in the first half. She made three 3-point field goals. Sophomore forward Angela Bisaro added eight points and four rebounds in the game for the Chargers.
