January 7, 2012 – The Hillsdale College women’s basketball team did everything but win Saturday’s thrilling game.
Despite one of their best offensive efforts of the season, the Chargers were on the losing end of an 89-82 overtime decision to the Tiffin University Dragons at Jesse Philips Arena. Hillsdale is now 5-8 on the season and 2-5 in conference play.
In a game that featured tons of points and a frantic pace from start to finish, the Chargers were unable to hang on to a lead late in regulation, while the Dragons did an excellent job of

making their free throws combined with making baskets at key times that got them ahead in the overtime session. Hillsdale played with heart and effort throughout the game, but came up frustratingly short of ending its current losing streak.
Hillsdale forced 19 turnovers and made 11 3-point shots in the game, but despite those excellent numbers, were unable to overcome the superior guard play featured by the Dragons.
Tiffin’s starting guards combined to score 41 points. They missed just one free throw and made seven 3-point shots between them.
Senior guard Chelsea Harrison led Hillsdale with 24 points, her second-highest total of the season. She also had six rebounds and four assists while playing all 45 minutes of the game. Sophomore guard Marissa DeMott played perhaps her best all-around game of the season, getting 11 points to go along with five rebounds and four assists, and did an excellent job at ballhandling and off-the-ball defense.
Senior Katie Bildner scored a season-high 18 points, draining four 3-point field goals. Freshman Abbey Lovat played her best game of her rookie season as well, scoring 13 points while grabbing seven rebounds in 24 very active minutes on the floor.
Freshman Kadie Lowery played 10 minutes, many of them in crunch time, and scored six points, including a banked-in 3-pointer that briefly gave the Chargers a lead in the game's waning minutes in regulation.
There were 10 ties and 15 lead changes in the game. The Chargers will play their next three games on the road, starting with Thursday’s rematch with Wayne State in Detroit.
