Gerber earns GLIAC South Division Player of the Week honors
Senior propels Hillsdale to 13th straight home win
January 30, 2012 - Senior guard Tyler Gerber had a day to remember Saturday. On Monday, he was rewarded on an individual basis.
Gerber, the Chargers' three-year starting point guard, was named the GLIAC South Division Player of the Week. The award was chosen and announced by the conference office.
Gerber became the 31st player in school history to record 1,000 points in a career with his final two free throws in Saturday's 91-69 win over Michigan Tech. The points were part of an 18-point, 12-assist performance that represented the 13th straight home win for 20th-ranked Hillsdale.
Gerber's 12 assists in the game were also a career high, and moved him into third place on the school's all-time list for career assists. He is the second player this season to eclipse 1,000 points in his Hillsdale career, joining Brent Eaton in that club.
The Chargers are a GLIAC-best 11-1 in conference play this season, and will host Lake Erie College Wednesday night.
Gerber hails from Baltic, Ohio and played his high school basketball at Sugarcreek Garaway.
