Harrison explodes for career-high 30 points to lead Charger women past Ohio Dominican
Hillsdale 78, Ohio Dominican 61
February 9, 2012 - When the book is closed on the career of Hillsdale College women's basketball senior guard Chelsea Harrison, it will be written that she is one of the best guards to ever suit up for the Chargers. Thursday night's game at Ohio Dominican will likely be Exhibit A in that argument.
Harrison scored a career-high 30 points to lead the Chargers to a 78-61 win over the host Panthers in a key GLIAC South Division matchup in Columbus. Hillsdale has now won seven of its past nine games, and improved to 12-10 overall, 8-7 in the GLIAC with the win.
Harrison nailed a season-high six 3-point field goals, but went an efficient 10-for-18 from the field as well, playing a brilliant, complete offensive game for Hillsdale. She played a smart game against Ohio Dominican's defense, rarely forcing things while moving well without the ball, giving her teammates good passing windows to find her for open shots.
Her six 3-pointers increase her career total to 225, leaving her just seven shy of shattering the school's career record for 3-pointers made, a mark that's stood since 1997.
Harrison played 38 minutes in the game, breaking a string of four consecutive games where she played every single minute. She also dished out seven assists and had four rebounds in this signature performance.
The Chargers maintained control of the game throughout, going on an 11-2 run to break open a 7-7 tie in the first part of the first half. The Chargers carried a 10-point lead into halftime, and increased that lead to 22 within the first 11 minutes of the second half.
Although the Chargers were outrebounded by the Panthers 42-38, Hillsdale held ODU to 32 percent shooting from the field for the game, and 25 percent from the 3-point stripe (7-for-28). Hillsdale shot 50 percent from the field in the game, and a blistering-hot 61 percent in the second half (17-for-28).
Junior guard Lea Jones put together another terrific performance, scoring 14 points with six rebounds and three steals in 34 minutes. Senior Katie Bildner had 10 points and eight rebounds, while freshman Abbey Lovat, making her second career start, grabbed a career-high eight rebounds.
Hillsdale will play at Tiffin University at 1:00 Saturday afternoon.
