Women's basketball concludes regular season with loss at Ferris State
Chargers await GLIAC tournament foe

February 22, 2012 - One of the quickest-moving games of the season was also the regular season finale for the Hillsdale College women's basketball team.

Wednesday night's game at Ferris State was completed in around 90 minutes, thanks in part to only 19 total fouls called. The Chargers lost to the host Ferris State University Bulldogs 61-51 at the Jim Wink Arena in Big Rapids.

Hillsdale finishes up the 2011-12 regular season with an overall record of 14-12 and 10-9 in the GLIAC. The Chargers will be off Saturday as they await their opponent in next week's GLIAC Tournament. Hillsdale will match up against either Tiffin or Michigan Tech, and the game will be away from home.

Ferris State, the GLIAC North Division champions, took the lead for good late in the second half, and wsa able to hold off some runs made by the Chargers in the second half. FSU scored seven straight points in a little more than 90 seconds to take an 11-point lead midway through the second half. Hillsdale went through a scoring drought where it missed six straight shots in a span of five minutes late in the second half, ruining any late comeback attempts.

The Chargers shot 36 percent from the field overall, and 26 percent from behind the 3-point stripe in the game. The Bulldogs were whistled for just eight total fouls in the game, giving Hillsdale just four made free throws, on six attempts.

Senior guard Chelsea Harrison led the Chargers with 17 points, giving her 1,501 for her career. She is just the fifth player in school history to cross the 1,500-point plateau, and first since Katie Cezat did it in the 2008-09 season.

Junior guard Lea Jones had 13 points, four assists and two steals, while sophomore forward Angela Bisaro had nine points off the bench. Senior forward Elizabeth Brannick contributed eight points for Hillsdale.
