April 28, 2012 - Junior Amanda Putt has spent countless hours circling the Ken Herrick Track at Hillsdale College, practicing her skills as one of Division II's top distance runners. This weekend, Putt got to run against some real competition on that same track, but produced a familiar result. news story image

Putt came less than two seconds away from a meet record in the 1500 meter run, blowing past the competition with a winning time of 4:21 at the 46th annual Hillsdale College Gina Relays, held this weekend at home.

Her time of 4:21 in that event is not only the best in all of Division II, but ranks in the top 20 of all Division I runners in that same event. Putt will look to add to her amazing resume at next weekend's GLIAC championships, before looking ahead to the national meet later in May.

The Chargers' two highly accomplished women pole vaulters, Kayla Caldwell and Chelsea Wackernagel, tied for second at the meet by cleasring 3.75 meters. They later teamed up with Becky Caywood and Erin Benjamin on the second-place 4x400 meter relay team, finishing with a time of 3:53.09.

Hillsdale's 4x800 relay team also finished in second place, as did high jumper Adrianna Yancho. Shannon Neby earned an NCAA provisional mark in the hammer throw, with a toss of 50 meters on the button.
