Hillsdale volleyball team polishes off perfect weekend with 3-0 sweep of Lake Superior State
October 6, 2007 - The Hillsdale College volleyball team took care of business in efficient maner Saturday afternoon, dispatching the visiting Lake Superior State Lakers 3-0 in a hot and steamy Jesse Philips Arena.

The win improves Hillsdale's record to 19-4 overall and 10-0 in the GLIAC. The Chargers have won 12 straight this season, and 30 matches in a row in conference play. Hillsdale maintained its two-game lead over Ashland in the GLIAC South Division with the win. LSSU is now 6-13 overall and 2-6.

The Chargers executed cleanly in achieving their most lopsided win of the season. Hillsdale hit .337 for the match, while holding the Lakers to amatch hitting percentage of .044. Hillsdale committed just 12 attack errors in the entire match, and had nine service aces compared to three errors. The Chargers have improved greatly in their service ace-to-error ratio in the past two weeks.

There were just four lead changes throughout the match, as the Chargers dominated from start to finish.

Hillsdale was able to spread the offense around to many players in the match. Senior Melissa Bartlett was the only player to register more than 10 kills, picking up a match-high 11. Sophomore Kittrick Smith finished off a strong weekend with seven kills and a .538 attack percentage.

The Chargers picked up 10 total blocks in the game, including five block assists from both Stephanie Booms and Amanda Geelhoed. Sophomore Hannah Barrett had two solo blocks in the match.

Freshman Sydney Dow made her collegiate debut as the team's libero, and had 11 digs and a service ace. Booms had 37 assists for Hillsdale, while sophomore Emily Benett had eight kills with no errors for a career-best .800 hitting percentage.

Hillsdale faces a key weekend of matches from Oct. 12-13, taking on Ferris State and Grand Valley on the road, respectively.
