October 26, 2007 - Before Friday's home volleyball match, the five seniors on Hillsdale College's volleyball team were honored for their excellence on and off the court. During the match, each of the four active seniors showed why they deserved such

accolades.
The 14th-ranked Chargers improved to 21-6 on the season with a 3-0 home victory over the Mercyhurst College Lakers at Jesse Philips Arena. Hillsdale is 12-2 in the GLIAC, and will host Gannon University at 12 p.m. Saturday. Mercyhurst drops to 16-13 and 3-12 in conference play with the loss.
Hillsdale's four active seniors (Caitlin Baron is out due to injury) each played well in helping the Chargers to their 10th straight home win of the season.
Senior Devon Blain played a fine all-around match, recording six kills, four assists, two service aces, one one dig and one block assist. She showed aggressiveness throughout the match from the right side.
Senior Melissa Bartlett was her usual unstoppable self, using powerful jump serves to generate five service aces. On offense, she was brutally efficient, getting 18 kills with just one error and a .515 hitting percentage.
Senior Megan Howard hit the 2,000-dig mark for her career with a team-high 12 digs in the match. Her one service ace also tied her for second place on Hillsdale's all-time aces list.
Senior Jen Pilot added five kills and a match-high seven block assists for Hillsdale. She ran the team's "quick" play with setter Stephanie Booms with high efficiency.
Booms led the team with 31 assists, and had eight digs and three kills. Hillsdale held Mercyhurst to a .100 hitting percentage for the match.
