Volleyball team earns another 3-0 sweep over Gannon
October 27, 2007 - There was no stopping the Hillsdale College volleyball team Saturday, as it improved to 22-6 on the season news story imagewith a 3-0 victory over Gannon University Saturday afternoon at the Jesse Philips Arena. The Chargers, who played their final home match of the regular season, sit tied for first place in the GLIAC South Division with a 13-2 league record.

Hillsdale dominated the match, winning the three games by scores of 30-18, 30-14 and 30-28. The Chargers hit .370 as a team in the match, while holding the Golden Knights to a team hitting percentage of .109.

All but two players on Hillsdale's roster recorded kills in the match, led by 17 from senior Melissa Bartlett. She had just one error on 21 attempts, giving her a season-high attack percentage of .762 in the match.

Sophomore Kittrick Smith added seven kills, while junior Stephanie Booms had six kills, 42 assists and four digs. Freshman Amanda Bigney (pictured) had three kills.

Freshman Sydney Dow led the team with 13 digs, while senior Megan Howard added two kills to her total of 10 digs and two service aces. Hillsdale had twice as many kills as Gannon (53-26), but with an equal number of errors and eight more attack attempts. The Chargers had 12 service aces, led by four from Bartlett.

The final weekend of the regular season looms for Hillsdale, where its ultimate finish in the South Division will be determined. The Chargers travel to Findlay for a 7:30 p.m. match Friday, before a Saturday showdown with Ashland to conclude the regular season.
