November 5, 2007 - For the second week in a row, Hillsdale College senior volleyball player Melissa Bartlett was named GLIAC South Division Player of the Week. The award was announced by the conference office Monday afternoon.
Bartlett, an outside hitter, had 42 kills in two Hillsdale wins over the weekend. The Chargers clinched the 2007 GLIAC South Division title with wins of 3-1 over Findlay and 3-0 over Ashland. It's the second year in a row the Chargers have won the division championship.
Bartlett also had eight service aces over the weekend, and had a .342 hitting percentage in the two matches. Bartlett currently leads the GLIAC in kills and kills per game. This is also the fourth time this season Bartlett has been named player of the week. It's also the first time ever a Hillsdale player has won the award two weeks in a row. Chargers have been named South Division Player of the Week a total of six times this season, the highest for any team in the conference.
Hillsdale is 24-6 on the season and will host Saginaw Valley State University at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the first round of the GLIAC Volleyball Tournament. The Chargers are ranked 11th in the nation in the latest AVCA/CSTV Division II Top 25 Volleyball poll.
