Women's basketball team falls to Notre Dame in exhibition opener
November 5, 2007 - Playing against one of the elite Division I women's basketball programs in the nation, the Hillsdale College women's basketball team made a good account of itself in a 96-64 exhibition loss to the Irish in South Bend, Ind. Monday night.

Hillsdale, who lost five starters and seven significant players off last year's roster, played in one of the biggest venues it will see, in the Joyce Center on Notre Dame's campus, and played hard against the Irish.

Junior forward Katie Cezat was strong inside, leading all players eith 23 points on 11-for-22 shooting from the field. She also grabbed eight rebounds and had three assists. Senior Julie Slot added 20 points and was 4-for-5 from 3-point land.

Sophomore Janay Miller had seven points in a starting role for the Chargers, while junior Claire Aubrey led the team with nine rebounds.

Hillsdale shot 78 percent from the free throw line and had two more assists than Notre Dame (17-15). Miller dished out a team-high five assists.

Tulyah Gaines led Notre dame with 16 points on 8-for-11 shooting from the floor.

This game will not count on Hillsdale's won-loss record for the 2007-08 season. The Chargers officially open the new campaign on Nov. 16 against West Virginia Weslyan at the Shippensburg Tournament.
